Budgam, Jul 24 (KNO): Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Friday visited the residence of slain Head Constable Ashiq Hussain at Lolipora in Beerwah area of Central Kashmir's Budgam district to express condolences with the bereaved family. Pertinently, Hussain was killed in a terror attack near Lal Chowk in Anantnag on Wednesday while performing his duties. Talking to reporters after meeting the family, Sharma, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said, “The martyred policeman made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation. Two generations of the same family dedicated their lives to the country and entire nation stands with the bereaved family members.” Sharma said Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to the slain policeman's son over the phone during the visit and conveyed his heartfelt condolences. “The Home Minister assured the bereaved family of all possible support from the Central Government.” According to Sharma, the family also shared its concerns directly with the Home Minister, who assured them that the Centre stands firmly with them in this difficult time and would ensure every possible assistance. "The Government of India is committed to standing by the family of the martyr. They will receive all the support they deserve," Sharma said. He said the sacrifice of Head Constable Ashiq Hussain would be remembered with honour and dignity. Sharma said efforts would be made to commemorate the martyr's service by naming a school or another public institution after him as a lasting tribute to his bravery and sacrifice. Describing the attack as a cowardly act, Sharma said such sacrifices strengthen the nation's resolve against terrorism and reaffirmed the commitment of security forces to safeguarding peace. Head Constable Ashiq Hussain, a resident of Lolipora, Beerwah, was shot at point-blank range by terrorists near Lal Chowk in Anantnag while on duty. He later succumbed to his injuries. He is survived by his wife, three children, his widowed mother, a brother and three sisters. His father, Head Constable Ghulam Mohiuddin Qureshi, had also lost his life while on official duty in 1995, making Ashiq the second generation of the family to lay down his life in service of the nation—(KNO)
